The Bartolini family and its companies first originated from a small town in the province of Siena, Celle sul Rigo.
The tradition that has been handed down from generation to generation originally came to life among the alleyways of the historic centre.
Celle sul Rigo was first mentioned in documents dating back to XIII, due to the dispute between Orvieto and Siena regarding the possession of lands.
It wasn’t until the XV century that the hamlet was annexed by Siena, by which point it had become an area of considerable strategic interest, in virtue of its position on the border between Tuscany and Lazio, and as a destination for wayfarers along the via Francigena.
Historic is a befitting adjective for describing both the hamlet and the Bartolini family, which takes pride in its land of origin, Celle sul Rigo.
Over a hundred years ago the Bartolini Family decided to open a small butcher’s shop. This was the first step of a long-lasting tradition they went on to pursue with passion. Albina and Giulio took the first step towards the creation of a long-standing family tradition and history.
Over time the small company grew, before Mery and Otello, the second generation of the Bartolini family, took up the reins. The company expanded thanks to the transport of livestock up and down the country and the direct delivery of meats to customers.
Silvio and Giulio, the sons of Mery and Otello and third generation of the Bartolini family, took over the company. They were helped by Franca, Giulio’s wife. The company grew thanks to strategic choices that led it to specialise in the sector at a nationwide level.
Bartolini Sas was incorporated in 2004. In addition to the slaughter of livestock and the trading of meat, it is also specialised in the running of animal husbandry facilities.
There is one last piece left to complete the historic puzzle of this successful supply chain, the production of salami.
Giulio and Silvio decided to acquire the Elle Emme charcuterie facility in Città di Castello. All the passion and tradition of professionals with generation’s worth of experience in meats has enabled Tuscan and Umbrian products to reach the tables of Italian families and earn recognition in virtue of their uniqueness, confirmed by the “Suino Umbro” and “Suino Umbro allo stato brado” marks, testifying to the origin of free range livestock.
